WHERE?  Kodaikanal 
Kodaikanal is a small romantic town perched atop the misty mountains of southern India, filled with waterfalls, lakes streams and forests. Ranked among the top 5 places in the world for best weather and clean air. The Kodaikanal hills form the eastward spur of mighty Western Ghats located in the Indian state of Tamilnadu. It is known for its natural enchanting beauty, rich flora and fauna and strong ancient heritage. Its has travellers from all over the world. 
WHY?   
Need for Rural Health Care
While Kodaikanal attracts a lot of tourists from India and around the world,  the local healthcare available to residents especially those who are underprivileged has tremendous scope for environment. In addition 15 villages that form the periphery of this town do not receive adequate health care.  Lots of local unskilled and semi skilled workers often leave their children at creches.
HOW?   
Your involvement
Helping the medical host with existing programs in providing healthcare and educating the people about medical resources, first-aid, preventive medicines etc. Volunteers work in a hospital, clinic, creche, and rural medical camps assisting the local medical professional and learn more about their work gaining practical experience. Volunteer work in patient consultation, basic health check-ups, elderly care, recording medical files/reports and health education etc, depending on their background, qualification and need in the assigned place of work.

  • Our volunteers are accommodated in our cottages within the town limit (AVONDALE – a heritage English cottage).
  • Our cottages are provided with better facilities including bedfoam, blankets, fireplace, hot water geyser, WIFI access, drinking water, kitchen access.
  • Our care-takers will be always on board to assist volunteers at anytime for any help, during their stay in our cottage.
  • Our volunteers can access our entire lush green cottage property, right from our beautiful garden and sit-outs etc. Gazing the mist and greens around!
  • Accommodation can be provided depends upon the crowd, if high in numbers. We may arrange the stay in our nearby cottages.

HOW?
Need for Rural Health Care
While Kodaikanal attracts a lot of tourists from India and around the
Volunteers will work mostly in the morning, starting at 9 am for about 4 hours in our planned hospital or rural medical centre. Helping the medical host with existing programs in providing healthcare and educating the people about medical resources, first-aid, preventive medicines etc. Most often volunteers works in a hospital, clinic, living facility and rural medical camps assisting the local medical professional or medical resource provider to learn more about their work and to gain practical experience serving different people around Kodaikanal. Volunteer work in patient consultation, basic health check-ups, elderly care, recording medical files/reports and health education etc, depending on their background, qualification and need in the assigned place of work. In leisure time, they can visit the town for shopping or touring around exploring Kodaikanal with the guidance of our staffs
FOOD:

  • Our volunteers are provided with good, tasty and hygienic food for breakfast, lunch and dinner from us.
  • They are served with snack in the evening time (coffee/tea, cookies etc) in our garden sit-outs.
  • Our volunteers are free to access kitchen in our cottage, trying out their culinary skills. Cooking their own food of their choice sometimes in leisure!
  • During weekends they can eat in our cottage or if they want to explore local foods and eat-out for a food joint, it should be informed previously to our volunteer coordinator. 
TRANSPORTATION:
                                                                 "WE CARE YOUR TRAVEL THROUGHOUT YOUR STAY WITH US"
  • Volunteers are picked by our drivers upon their arrival at Madurai or Coimbatore airport to our guesthouse in Kodaikanal.
  • Organic Brooklyn provides transportation facilities everyday from Monday to Friday to our volunteers. (Both pick-up and drop from their work place to cottage).
  • Volunteers can take help from our volunteer coordinator for weekend trips to explore places around Kodaikanal over transportation and food.

  COST FOR THE PROGRAM : 
Total cost  $1500 for two weeks stay including every services below and thereafter $600 each week with staying with us volunteering. (we provide better volunteering experience/accommodation/food/transport & travel/other assistance throughout the stay for volunteers than other medical volunteering providers,it can be witnessed sure with us!)
     
Organic Brooklyn  international medical volunteering program cost comprises of covering donations to our partnered NGOs,local community development projects,accommodation, food, transportation assistance from the day of volunteers coming in to join us till they move out after their program from Kodaikanal along with volunteering certificates.
     Also we provide extra tours like sightseeing, trekking/hiking/wildlife encounters/exotic trips during leisure/weekends to our volunteers through organic Brooklyn Eco-tourism.
